couplets on chinatown

Chinatown in Singapore is a rich and colorful place. True, it’s all meant as a show for the tourists, but I just love how they use such vibrant colors like pinks and lavenders on the buildings. Manila’s Chinatown needs a little bit of sprucing up to compete with this hipster cousin, but I guess each Chinatown all over the world somehow takes on the character of its host country.

I saw the funny old man in the first photo sitting at the train station at 10:00 AM reading his newspaper on the ground and completely not minding the world. At 4:00 PM, he was still sitting at the same spot reading a novel. That’s dedication!

fika fika fika

I’m obsessed about anything Scandinavian since I follow a lot of blogs by Swedish and Norwegian design students and young professionals. Everything about their subject matters are so fresh, natural, and good-looking!

So, when I found out that there was a Swedish bistro near Haji Lane how can I say no to eating there? The restaurant is named after a traditional social practice of the Swedish of simply taking a break. It’s kind of like merienda here in the Philippines. The truth is, I really just like to say that I did a fika. Haha!

I ordered an open-faced sandwich which was all kinds of yum and shared a dessert with my sister. The food was impeccable and halal-certified too. I’m definitely coming back here for seconds when I get the chance.
